Michael Ellenberger's Review of the Brooks Hyperion Elite 4
Good to know about the bigger volume. For Speedgoat 5 my wider feet like the wide (2E) option.
Great colorway. Pity you have to pay 275 dollars to get it. Hoka really needs to do a better job on that front. It might be a strategy to keep the price down, buying materials that no one else wants, but they’ve really missed the mark on color IMO on more of there popular styles. Glad to hear the initial impressions went well. Would be curious to see how the midsole compares to ZG2.
Curious about climbing in such a stiff shoe..... from a multi mile/kilo effort to a steeper 20'/7m climb out of a dry creekbed, I am always going to my metatarsals. I'VE tried shoes with stiff fore foot(s) on climbs and it usually means I have to start power hiki g.. what happens with these shoes?
Once these are available in the UK, I don't see any reason I won't buy a pair. They tick so many boxes for me as someone who already enjoys the X2
Thanks for the review!
Which feels more stable, Cyclone 2 or Specter 2?
Not question Specter 2
@@RoadTrailRun ok great. Thank you so much for such a fast answer. Much appreciated!
Does the Cyclone 2 have good stability in the heel area? I have the Triumph 20 which I like, but the heel is wobbly.
Specter 2 does. Cyclone 2 less so
@@RoadTrailRun thank you. I will buy Specter 2!
My left ear.
Good morning. Like from 🇪🇸 Spain. A nice weekend for everyone.
This "review" comes off sounding like a sales pitch. Spare us the hyperbole and emotionality. Sam and ONLY Sam needs to conduct these reviews for this channel. What's going on this channel? I hope Sam is doing well health-wise.
Sam here and doing just fine! Mike is enthusiastic about the update to truly is favorite shoe. His level of detail and depth of experience is amazing. For such a shoe Mike is the most appropriate tester for sure. Our styles may be different, yes, but RTR has many voices! Thanks for watching and commenting.
Nice one. Thanks for the overview. Can’t wait. FYI the audio is only coming out of the left channel.
Nice review Mike keep up the good work! Hopefully can still wear a crew sock without rubbing on the collar!
Love the comparisons to other shoes. Thanks!
Thanks for the good review. It's very informative. I have a good collection of trail shoes and definitely don't need another trail shoe as I mainly run on the road, but I'm interested in this based on the very positive experience I've had with the Hoka Cielo X1 road running shoes. It's supposed to be a racing shoes but I see it as a really good all-rounder that's comfortable, bouncy, and fast. I doubt I'll ever race in a 100-mile ultramarathon (maybe 50K someday), but a trail shoe that's reminiscent of the Cielo X1 would be very nice. My trail shoes collection consists of the Salomon S/Lab Genesis, Terrex Agravic Speed Ultra and Agravic Speed, Nnormal Kjerag and Tomir 2.0, and Norda 001 and 002. Pretty happy with this stable. I've had or tried various other trail shoes over the years - Tecton X, Mafate Speed 4, Speedgoat 5, Pulsar Trail Pro, Speedland SL:HSV, Xodus Ultra 1 & 2, Endorphin Edge, FuelCell SC Trail, several inov-8 shoes whose names I can't remember now as they are all a mouthful, Agility Peak 5, and Peregrine 12 and 13. Some I liked, some I didn't like at all, and some were just okay. Didn't try the Tecton X 2. Generally didn't like the feel of carbon plates in trail shoes. They felt slappy and even harsh when going downhill. Looking forward to your thoughts on how the Tecton X 3 handles steep ascents, descents, and rocky technical trails.
Definitely will be testing in all kinds of terrain. I will say though that I think the Tecton's carbon plates (V1 & V2) have been the least "invasive" compared to other shoes. The fact that they're split eliminates a lot of rigidity. I've tested Endo Edge, Vectiv Sky, Scarpa GG Kima, Scott Ultra Carbon RC, Pulsar Trail Pro 2, Speedlands, new Terrex Speed Ultra, and probably forgetting a few too
@@MikeP-RTR Looking forward to your thoughts after more thorough testing in different terrains. I'd also be interested in knowing how this compares to the Agravic Speed Ultra.
The internal of X2 starting breaking down way too early, they are super shoes for racing, but man $260cdn for x2 and now $300 for x3, I’d have to be really confident is some increased durability.
Actually the interior lining in the heel area of one of my X2's is busted through. Doesn't really affect anything though. I was thinking about putting some gear repair tape in there since they'll be a training shoe from now on. But I've got 311 miles in them, mostly hard, rugged racing. Can't complain about durability. X3 price does go up, but it's really moving into the category of a super shoe/very specific race shoe now. One of their other models like SG or Mafate Speed would be the training companion shoe as I see it. Even Tecton X 2 as they start to get discounted.
La durabilité des Hoka n'a jamais été leur point fort
Thanks for the review! Definitely one to try. I could do without the gaiter personally though. You make the bucket hat look cool btw!
The gaiter for me is one of the best features!
Why on earth haven't Hoka added somewhere you can tuck those laces in now they've added that stupid collar!
Funny. HOKA is not even a legit running shoe brand. You will not see innovation spring from this well.
Thank you for an excellent review. Looking forward to the full review that includes more technical terrain.
Thanks for the review! Looking forward to these Tecton X 3, i have version 2 and like them, version 3 is a buy for me and i think i will love them. Peba and and high stack brings much more confort and bouncy to the run(not sure they will be that good in very technical grounds like rocks), and the "booty" style will be great when i run in water or shallow rivers so that the sand won´t get in the shoes. Cheers!
Ive switched from Hoka. Im a flat, wide shoe! Escalate, and Torin. Can you please make more shoe's. Hard to find.
The bottoms of the 41's feel way more cushioned now. I've been using mine for about a week now, love em
Need a Rise comparo vid.
Sold both the UB 19 and 21 after one run. FIRM. Boost blows.
Firm because of the very thin forefoot stack and all the plastics at the ground. Very different here.
How would these fare for running and running errands and everyday wear.. i love the cloudmonsters and use them for almost everything but i love the looks of these and the colors.
I'm not liking the feedback from their team when asked questions and the it that answered the question didn't give me any other info on what might come out just so I know if I should hang on and wait or buy something else, I just want some type of release or caring
Not that impressed with its drying abilities. I tried hiking 3x40 km in them this weekend in the woods and swamps. After dirt gets into the fabric, it barely lets out water since there is no drainage holes and it acts as a cup that picls up water in river crossings with all the reinforcements on the outside of the shoe around the sole. They would dry fine enough in the sun when I took them off though, and the inner sole is made with a bunch of holes so the shoe itself can carry a bunch of water it seems. This insole is quite thin and since I had to take it out every day to dry out the shoe, it started to twist on the third day and wouldnt stay in place properly
can use for daily trainer and run 5-10km?
Yes for sure! Good use for them!
can use for daily trainer and run 5-10km?
Why ur hand shaking?
Im us10.5 should i go for us11.5?
Ultraboost 5 as well as 5x run true to size, but you should try them out before you buy them anyway.
I would not size up. I might size down a half size US if you have a very narrow low volume foot.
Thanks Sam! You always do such a great job with your reviews. As a nuetral runner with no stability needs it's nice to see that Adidas didn't make the mid-foot ridiculously wide. As a request, would you please include the Puma Magnify Nitro 2 and New Balance Balos for comparison in your multi-tester review (despite the difference in price points).
Thank you very much Matt! As far as compares and in brief the UB5 X is not as soft but more reactive and is easier to turn over than the Balos whose front outsole is mostly rubberized foam so the rocker is attenuated compared to the adidas. As far as Magnify Nitro 2 a close comparison. The Magnify has a bit bouncier less direct responding foam and is slightly more cushioned but less dynamic overall. Its upper has better hold and matches better to the platform. The only real weakness of the UB5X is the knit upper. It's ride is top notch!
@@RoadTrailRun - Many thanks for your response! I hope your knee is doing well!
@@mtmatt6111 You are welcome! Doing just fine the repaired knee. A bit stiffer than the other but no pain and mileage increasing as is my daily pace to really test the "fast" shoes.
Hello!! Is this shoe suitable for a marathon?
I think it could be a good marathon option
Hi, great comparisons, if you could only have one, the prima or ultraboost which would be the best to do all your runs? Thankyou 🇬🇧
Thanks! Great question! While the UB 5X is more fun, I would pick the more sold upper and better overall stability of the Prima and I run neutral shoes
I have a pair Yesterday at the adidas store in Colombia and i was a big surprise , thebshoe is bery light, very soft and nice loking to! And the price is rght for the quality the price is low compared to the rscing models!
Can you tell if the upper in the toe box is a bit stretcher in the 5x vs UB Light ( super snug fit)upper from 2023 ? The original Ultraboost Light was amazing to run in them, but I felt it needed (in a future update ) a bit more grip for the toe off ( under the big toes )and a bit more cushioning in the forefoot. Now with the Ultraboost 5x I can see it got improved in the right spots !
Would this shoe be good for long runs and marathon training?
For sure! Near ideal for that. Lots of energetic cushion, great rocker, roomy secure upper
Thanks for this information about Adidas 2024. Like from 🇪🇸 Spain. I prefer the Supernova Rise. A nice weekend for everyone.
ULTRABOOST 5 - best sneakers ever ❤
Why are they so expensive though? Totally out of touch as a daily trainer.
Hate that too but the ultraboost lineup just always insists on being $180 plus
glad I didnt get the 5x. SL2 it is, thank.
The new Ultraboost 5 x is a true work of art... technology and comfort are beyond anything i've seen so far... a pure joy to run in them ...
I love version one. I've got 3 pairs. Super excited for this new version. Why don't I see this white colorway for pre order?
Wide foot friendly?
Definitely
Yes due to stretch knit
Thanks for the review! Does it make sense to get this if I already have the SL2 as a daily trainer?
No😂.You already have one good daily trainer, why would you want to buy one more?😛
If you like the SL2 probably not. A better pairing for longer runs and a more secure upper and a touch of stability would be the Supernova Prima
@@deshkanagrikhoon I ask because I’m not sure if this is being promoted as a daily trainer, or a max cushion recovery shoe. The marketing is a bit confusing.
70$ 90$ 120$
Interesting description. Like from 🇪🇸 Spain. Happy friday.
Hi great review, how would this compare to the supernova prima in terms of ride? Thanks
Skechers Go Run Ride 11 with a better upper?
Deciding between the 860 and 880. Really enjoyed the Prism v1. Also liked the Beacon v1 (had a nice heel counter and liked the rocker). Love mild stability shoes. Wear orthotics. Hearing this 860 is super soft and to consider 880. Foot is a medium width, but on narrower side. Which one to go with?
Either 880 or Noosa Tri 16.
@@RoadTrailRunthanks for the info. I'm seeing some reviews that are really canning the 880. Not sure what that is. It's sounding like the fit would be better on the 880. I did try the Vongo, and it's the first shoe I've ever worn where it actually forces my foot into pronation. I'd love to hear more about what you guys think about that EVA film that's being used for stability. Most of my friends who work in technical running shoe stores say that the 860 is very mushy.
@@melindareiner9908 did you appreciate the vongo 6 forcing your foot into (under?)pronation? You are a mild overpronator? Sometimes in neutral shoes I feel like I want to correct myself from flat footedness/overpronation and angle my feet laterally to correct this myself when walking. I am thinking I will try the 860 and the vongo as they both are said to push you a little into underpronation (guide you laterally). Not sure if I want the shoe to do it yet or for me to do it consciously. Though when walking any distances it is too much effort to consciously do it each step.
Wish Vongo v6 was in the comparison... Would love to know how these 2 stability shoes differ.
Never tested unfortunately but here is some detail of the differences from our written 860 v14 review: "We have not tested the Vongo. It is a bit heavier as it is more shoe in terms of cushion stack. It has the same heel height as the 860 but with 2mm more upfront cushion as 6mm drop shoe. The Stability Plane is full length on both sides of the shoe unlike the 860's which is partial on the lateral side." www.roadtrailrun.com/2024/06/new-balance-fresh-foam-x-860-v14-multi.html
